1. Service Definition

SLPlayground is a website offering educational speech, language, and cognitive practice games for children. Games are operated within a browser and are selected, managed, and paid for by adults (parents, guardians, educators, and speech-language pathologists).

2. Account and Payment Structure

  • Account Holders: Only adults create accounts, authenticate, and manage payments. Children do not register, create accounts, or log in.

  • Supervision: Children utilize games on devices set up and supervised by an adult.

  • Subscription Model: 7-day free trial followed by an automatically renewing monthly or annual paid subscription.

3. Data Collection and Privacy

  • Children’s Information: No names, contact information, account details, recordings, diagnoses, or school information are requested from children. Game pages contain no child-facing contact forms or data-submission fields.

  • Technical Processing: Limited processing occurs via service providers (Netlify, Google Fonts) for security, content delivery, and server logs.

  • Local Storage: Six games use browser localStorage for non-transmitted, local-only data (high scores, story drafts, cosmetic selections).

  • Adult Account Information: Includes name, email, authentication/session data (via Clerk), subscription status, and transaction identifiers (via Stripe). Stripe handles full card details via hosted checkout.

4. Third-Party Services

  • Squarespace: Marketing-site hosting and first-party site analytics.

  • Netlify: Game hosting, edge functions, and standard server logs.

  • Clerk: Adult account authentication.

  • Stripe: Adult payment processing via hosted checkout.

  • Google Fonts: Currently requested by some game pages; self-hosting is recommended.

5. Professional Disclaimers

  • Scope: The games are educational practice tools, not a substitute for professional evaluation, diagnosis, therapy, or medical care.

  • No Clinical Relationship: Use of SLPlayground does not establish a clinician-client or therapist-patient relationship.

  • User Responsibility: Clinicians and educators retain responsibility for professional, legal, privacy, documentation, consent, and recordkeeping obligations. Users must not enter protected health information (PHI), education records, or other identifiable child information into the platform.

6. Technical Privacy Audit

  • Hosting/Logs: Netlify receives visitor IP addresses to deliver content and maintain security. These logs are not used to create child profiles, track children across services, or target advertising.

  • Marketing Cookies: Squarespace may use first-party cookies on the adult-facing marketing site.

  • Authentication: Clerk code runs only on adult-facing account/subscription flows.

  • Payments: Stripe.js is not embedded on game pages; server-side redirects are used for checkout.

  • Tracking: No third-party advertising pixels, behavioral analytics, or persistent identifiers for child profiles are present. 

7. Subscription, Consent, and Billing

  • Affirmative Consent: Monthly and annual plans require user-checked consent during signup.

  • Signup Confirmation: Immediate notification provided via display and email detailing the plan, trial end date, first charge date, renewal frequency, and cancellation links.

  • Cancellation: Can be performed via the SLPlayground account or the linked Stripe customer portal. Cancellation stops future charges effective at the end of the current billing period.

  • Refunds: Payments are non-refundable except where required by law; partial-period refunds or credits are provided at the sole discretion of Scala Communication Services, Inc.

8. Privacy Policy

  • Usage: Information is used to provide/improve the service, manage accounts, process payments, and communicate with users.

  • Disclosure: Information is disclosed only as necessary for service operations, legal compliance, or business reorganization.

  • Data Retention: Retained for as long as the account is active and as necessary for legal, accounting, tax, and security obligations.

  • Adult Rights: Adults may request access to, correction of, or deletion of their personal information by contacting support@slplayground.com.

  • Security: Reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards are employed.
